Tamar Groswald Ozery

Tamar (Tami) Groswald Ozery is a Fellow at the Harvard Law School Program on Corporate Governance and a co-editor of the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation. Tami is also a visiting lecturer at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Israel, where she teaches the course Chinese Law and Legal Institutions and segments on Chinese enterprise organization. Prior to joining HLS, Tami pursued a doctoral degree in Law (S.J.D) at the University of Michigan Law School where she also was a Michigan Grotius Fellow.

Before turning to academia, Tami was a practicing corporate lawyer in a leading Israeli law firm (GKH Law Offices), where she headed the firm’s China Desk, operating from Israel and China. While residing in China, she was also a CSC and Israeli Foreign Ministry scholarship recipient for the study of Chinese (Mandarin) at East China Normal University, Shanghai.

Fields of Academic Interest

Tami’s areas of academic interest include corporate and securities law, comparative corporate governance, law and development theories (with particular interest in their application in Asian and transitional economies), the Chinese legal system, and corporations under state capitalism.

Dissertation Project

Tami’s doctoral research presents a comparative approach to corporate law and corporate governance — examining how organizational ownership structures are formed, and how capital markets develop, while analyzing the implications of such processes to corporate stakeholders and the role played by the legal system. Her dissertation project and related publications analyze aspects of corporate governance, minority shareholders’ rights and protections, and capital market development particularly in the Chinese legal system.
