A study issued by the Harvard Law School Program on Corporate Governance, Bebchuk, Cohen, and Ferrell (2009), put forward a corporate governance index – the Entrenchment Index (E Index). This study has had substantial influence on subsequent research work. According to Google Scholar citations data, as of the end of December 2023, the study was cited by 3,656 research papers, and over 1,540 studies used the Entrenchment Index in their analysis of empirical data.
